Yes all partition walls have studs in them and they should be around 400mm apart. I've used them throughout both this house and our previous one, both of which have/had plasterboard walls.

Plaster is hard, and pounding a nail into it could crack it or disengage it from the lath that holds it in place. Another option might be to fix studs into the wall with a resin fixing and then hang the radiator brackets on those.
